Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh are through to the final of the Leadon Timberframe Ulster Minor Cup after a 1-12 to 0-9 win over Derry champions Lavey.

There was little between the teams in a close first half as both sides struggled at times under the lights. Enda Downey landed four first half points for Lavey but Eoghan Ruadh matched them every step of the way as Conor Mc Ginty, Cain Ferguson and Cormac Hughes replied for the Tyrone side.

Approaching half time Ryan McGill edged his team two clear but a brace of superb 65s and a converted free from the stick of Michael Little sent the teams in tied at six apiece at the break.

Eoghan Ruadh were quick out of the blocks at the start of the second half with a goal and a point from the very impressive Cain Ferguson. His point was a thing of beauty and would have done justice to being scored by any of the greats of hurling.

Four points clear Eoghan Ruadh played some superb hurling but credit to Lavey they continued to hurl hard and fair. Downey landed two further points to narrow the gap but the Dungannon lads had the bit between their teeth as Fionn Devlin, Conal Devlin, Jack Donnelly and Sean Paul Mc Kernan repelled everything that the Lavey attack managed to throw at them.

Cormac Hughes and Matthew Mc Cann pointed to extend the lead again for Eoghan Ruadh before Downey hit point number seven to leave three between the teams. Unfortunately for the Derry lads that was to be their last score as Eoghan Ruadh hit four unanswered points from Mc Kernan, Ferguson, Fergal Donaghy and Rory Weir to finish deserved winners.

A word of recognition also to goalkeeper Conrad Mc Keown who made several key saves and whose puck outs set up numerous attacks for the Eoghan Ruadh men over the course of the game.

Next up for Eoghan Ruadh will be a meeting with old adversaries Loughgiel of County Antrim in the final of the competition. That game will take place on Sunday in Ballinascreen at 1:30pm.
