Errigal Bow Out At St.Pauls
Sunday 17.12.2017
Tyrone champions Errigal Ciaran were beaten by Ballinascreen in the quarter final of the Ulster Minor Tournament at the St.Paul’s club in Belfast on Sunday afternoon. It was 0-2 each at the end of the opening quarter with midfielders Joe Oguz and Peter Og McCartan on target for the Dunmoyle based lads. An Emmett Duggan goal appeared to put the Derry champions in the driving seat but that was cancelled out by a well struck Ciaran Traynor penalty and a Darragh Canavan free to leave it 1-4 each at the turnaround.
Team Captain McCartan burst through for two superb points in the opening moments of the second half but each time Ballinascreen replied through Cathal Donnelly and Reece McSorley. The winners then tagged on three points in a row from Duggan, Conal Logan and Euan McBride to take an advantage that they were never to lose. To their credit the Errigal lads kept plugging away and they reduced the deficit to the minimum thanks to another Canavan free and a fine effort from play from full forward Traynor. They lost Oguz to a second booking and after Martin Bradley had scored for Ballinascreen the Tyrone lads had McCartan red carded in injury time as it finished 1-10 to 1-8.
