Errigal Ciaran 0-20 Killyclogher 1-9
2024 champions Errigal Ciaran served notice that they are once again going to be one of the sides to beat in pursuit of the O’Neill Cup after producing a fine display to knock league champions Killyclogher out of the running at Healy Park on Sunday night.
It was a contest that they were always in control off and they really kicked on after their opponents had closed the gap just before the break. By the 11th minute they had surged 0-6 to 0-1 in front thanks to points from Odhran Robinson, Darragh Canavan and GO POWER man of the match Shea McDermott (4). Mark Hayes had opened Killyclogher’s account and they reduced the deficit through efforts from Patrick Corcoran and Dara Hayes. Eoin Kelly, Tiarnan Colhoun and McDermott though helped raise that gap to six by the 20th minute. As the half wore on Mark Hayes thumped home a well taken goal and Conall McCann converted a two point free and while Mark Kavanagh had the final say it was all to play for in the second period, 0-11 to 1-5.
In the opening minute of the second half Peter Og McCartan landed a quality score and the winners never looked back. Robinson hit a point before McCartan struck a brilliant effort from outside the arc all within six minutes. Canavan was looking lively as well and he added to his side’s tally as did McDermott and while Dara Hayes responded with a quick brace Killyclogher were in big trouble going into the final quarter as they trailed 0-17 to 1-7. Cormac Quinn raced through to fist his second score of the night with Aodhan Quinn and Canavan bringing an end to their scoring. McCann hit the bar with a rasping drive late on and PT Cunningham landed a two pointer but it was Errigal Ciaran who advanced to the quarter final.
