Errigal Ciaran found Moneyglass a bridge too far in their LGFA senior final at Brewster Park on Sunday. The Antrim champions showed just why they went into the match as slight favourites and once they got to the rhythm of the game there was only going to be one winner.

The Tyrone champions opened the scoring with points from Aoife Horisk and Maria Canavan and looked sharp during the opening exchanges. They were awarded a penalty six minutes into the game but unfortunately for Errigal Maria Canavan’s shot went narrowly wide and a chance to throw down a marker and extend the lead was lost.

From the restart Moneyglass took over and controlled the pace and flow of the game. Rebecca Bradley and Cliona Griffin led by example as the Antrim girls went through the gears. Cathy Carey opened their account with a fine point before Leah Stewart and Carey  both hit the net to put their side five points clear as they took control of the game.

Aoife Horisk raised a cheer when she converted a twenty fourth minute free to reduce the gap but Moneyglass still looked dangerous and they struck for their third goal of the game when Maria O’Neill got on the end of a fine team move to strike for goal number three.

Errigal looked leggy as they tried to cope with the pace and movement of their opponents. A converted free from Maria Canavan concluded the first half scoring and left the half time score 3-1 to 0-4 in favour of Moneyglass.

The second half began with Moneyglass very much on top in spite of the best efforts of the Errigal girls. Full forward Cathy Carey was highly impressive both in open play and from placed balls. A last minute penalty from Errigal was turned over the bar by Moneyglass goalkeeper Aine Devlin which just about summed up Errigal’s day for them.

Final score: Errigal Ciaran 0-6, Moneyglass 3-10
