Errigal Ciaran played well within themselves but still managed to brush aside the challenge of Urney in their first round Tyrone Senior championship clash at Loughmacrory on Saturday.

The favourites failed to inspire during a poor first half where chances were few and far between. Urney seemed happy enough to still be in touch at the break as the North Tyrone side trailed by two 0-5 to 0-3. Indeed they could have been even closer but failed to convert at least two reasonable chances of scores during that opening thirty minutes. Fergal Mc Nulty, Plunkett Langan and Chris Bogle hit the Urney points while Peter Harte (3) and Paudge Mc Anenly did the scoring for Errigal.

Errigal were much improved after the break and an early goal from Davy Harte ended the game as a contest. The winners grew in confidence with Mark Kavanagh, Davy Harte, Peter Harte and sub Peter Og Mc Cartan all getting on the scoreboard. Urney continued to battle hard with fine points from Mc Nulty, Martin Owens and Stephen Lafferty reducing the gap. However without the scoring threat of Johnny and Ronan Lafferty up front they never looked like really troubling their opponents and Errigal cruised to a 2-11 to 0-7 win.
