Errigal Defeat Derrytresk In Junior Replay

Errigal 3rds saw off a late comeback from Derrytresk to make it through to the quarter finals of the Connolly’s of Moy Junior Championship. Played at Carrickmore in difficult conditions the Dunmoyle lads came from four down early in the contest to win 0-16 to 3-6.
A Niall Gavin point followed by a goal from midfielder Ultan Mc Kee gave the Hill Men the perfect start as they led 1-1 to no score after seven minutes. Errigal eventually settled to the task and points from Robert Harper, Colm Mellon, Aaron Neill and Niall Mc Cartan put them 0-5 to 1-1 in front.
Odhran Hughes was fouled in the square sixteen minutes in and Liam Slater converted the resultant penalty before full forward Harper pointed to leave one between the sides. Errigal finished the half strongly with points from Senan Canavan and Niall Mc Cartan to send the sides in at the break with Errigal leading 0-11 to 2-2.
Sporadic showers made underfoot conditions difficult in the second half but both sides deserve credit for the way they dealt with the greasy conditions. A Gavin free opened the second half scoring but Davy Harte floated one over to restore the four point differential.
Errigal enjoyed a concerted period of possession and dominance as they hit four points in a row to pull clear of their opponents. Davy Harte, Ethan Neill, and Senan Canavan with the scores that put Errigal seven clear with five minutes of normal time remaining.
A brilliant individual goal from Caolan Corr suddenly changed the momentum and Derrytresk went for broke. A brace of Liam Slater points and one from Odhran Hughes had the gap down to a single point but Errigal with Dasher Mc Dermott and Aaron Neill prominent did enough to hold on for the win on a final score of Errigal 3rds 0-16, Derrytresk 3-6.
