Trillick 1-13 Errigal Ciaran 1-11

County and Ulster Champions Errigal Ciaran lost out to Trillick on Sunday night after another titanic encounter in Healy Park. Going into the game Errigal Ciaran were bidding to reach their fourth decider in a row but the Reds had a different script and it’s the Trillick men who will instead contest their fifth county senior championship final in seven years.

Trillick opened the scoring in the 2nd minute as Mattie Donnelly fired over a point from play.  By the 4th minute Errigal had their opening score of the game as Tommy Canavan landed his first point from play.  Two more Trillick points from Rory Brennan and Matthew Donnelly edged Trillick two points ahead in the 5th and 6th minute just before Errigal’s second point from Darragh Canavan.

By the 10th minute just a point separated the two sides as Seanie O’Donnell and Peter Harte both pointed from play.  The next score in the 11th minute was something of a work of art. Darragh Canavan collected the ball out on the left wing and off the outside of his boot hit a slide rule pass into bother Ruairi’s hands who drilled the ball into the corner of the Trillick net.  Ruairi Canavan hit a point from play in the 13th minute to ease the lead out to three.

Trillick needed a response and it came two minutes later.  James Garrity keeping his cool to convert a penalty to level the contest at 1-4 apiece. It took another three minutes before the next score came.  Simon Garrity splitting the uprights ahead of a Lee Brennan free who had been struggling to get scores prior to that.

With five minutes to go to the break James Garrity extended the lead to three points and the last two scores of the half came from Peter Og McCartan and Liam Gray.  Half Time – Trillick 1-8 Errigal 1-5.

It took Errigal Ciaran just seven minutes of the second half to level the contest. Darragh Canavan, Tiarnan Colhoun, and Tommy Canavan finding their range.  By the 41st minute Errigal had taken a one point lead. Ruairi Canavan pointing a free.  Trillick badly needed a point and it came from Matthew Donnelly in the 43rd minute to level the game once again.

By the three quarter mark an Odhran Robinson point and another from Darragh Canavan had the champions two ahead.  That score would prove to be Errigal’s last point of the game.  Trillick pushed for home landing unanswered points from Simon Garrity, Ciaran Daly, Daire Gallagher and James Garrity to secure their place in the decider.
