Errigal Ease Into Quarter Finals

Errigal Ciaran made short work of their opponents Pomeroy on Sunday evening at Carrickmore in the first round of the LCC Tyrone Senior Football Championship winning 1-20 to 0-11.The Dunmoyle side were quick out of the blocks and raced into a 1-4 to no score lead inside the opening thirteen minutes. Niall Kelly, Cathal Corrigan, Ben Mc Donnell and Padraig Mc Girr scored points before full forward Odhran Robinson found the bottom corner of the net as his fiercely struck twenty metre shot sped past Martin Mc Creesh in the Pomeroy goal.
The Plunketts struggled to win primary possession in the opening thirty minutes and apart from one or two strong runs by Frank Burns and Kieran Mc Geary, they rarely threatened their opponents goals. Hugh Pat Mc Geary sent over a fine point on sixteen minutes to open the Pomeroy account but following that Errigal hit seven unanswered points to to move 1-11 to 0-1 clear. Padraig Mc Girr, Peter Harte (2), Tommy Canavan, Niall Kelly, Odhran Robinson and Cathal Corrigan were the men in target.
With time running out Kieran Mc Geary added two further points to his side’s tally but unfortunately for them they lost Brendan Burns to a straight red card just before the break to leave them with a real mountain to climb in the second half.
Pomeroy did improve after the break but Errigal remained dominant and they outscored Pomeroy nine points to eight to finish convincing winners on a score line of 1-20 to 0-11. Robinson, Mc Girr, Corrigan, Harte and Mark Kavanagh were among the points for the winners in the second half while Kieran Mc Geary, Ronan Duffin, and Hugh Pat Mc Geary got the scores for Pomeroy.
Errigal will now meet Dromore in the quarter finals.
