Errigal Edge It In Exciting Finale.
Sunday 04.11.2012

Errigal Ciaran have improved with every game this year and raised their performance levels once again to defeat Derry champions by a single point 0-11 to 0-10 in their Ulster Club first round game. This match was a high quality affair between two very evenly balanced sides. There was little between the teams throughout the opening half but it was Errigal who were on top in midfield and who were winning the majority of breakball. Unfortunately for them they did not capitalise on the chances they created and reached the break level at five points apiece.
The Tyrone side upped the ante considerably following the break and hit five unanswered points in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half. At that stage it looked like there was only going to be one winner. Errigal were awarded a free twenty five metres out which gave them the chance to go six in front. However Tommy Canavan failed to convert the chance and Ballinderry sensed they might get something from the game. Suddenly the impetus was with the men in blue and they hit five unanswered points to level the game as the clock reached thirty minutes. It was very much a case of “next score wins” and that is exactly how it finished as Canavan converted the last chance deep in injury time and Errigal held on to win by one.
This was a pulsating high paced match that was laced with quality and skill and no shortage of endeavour. The Tyrone champions had heroes all over the field but it was ultimately the strength of the team that saw them through in the end. The only disappointment was a straight red car for ace forward Daisy Mc Dermott which will affect his participation in the up coming semi final.
