Goals in each half from Errigal Ciaran saw them comfortably qualify for the quarter final of this year’s Junior championship, at the expense of a gallant Killyman side. The game played in perfect conditions at Healy Park saw Errigal race to an early three point advantage with the direct ball to Ruairi O’Sullivan proving effective. O’Sullivan opened the scoring in the second minute with a fine score. The evergreen Davy Harte’s accuracy from placed balls was a feature of the contest as he opened his account in the 8th minute with a free and added to that minutes later from play before Shea Gates scored for Killyman. As the game entered the second quarter Killyman came close to seizing the initiative when good team build up presented Conor O’Hagan with a goal chance but he dragged his shot across the face of the goal.

O’Sullivan scored his second before Sean Mellon, who had an impressive opening period, fired to the net. Errigal will be disappointed with their scoring return despite their dominance with some wayward shooting. Late scores from Harte and Go man of the match Connor McAleer, saw the lead extend to seven at the break, a Ronan Mc Veigh free having replied for Killyman.

Killyman had their best moments early in the second half. Enda McGahan converted a mark before an excellent Gary Hamill point. Colm Mellon drove through the middle for the winners to get on the scoresheet before Ronan McVeigh somehow missed the target after an excellent catch and superb turn. A brace of Harte frees sandwiched a nice Enda McGahan score.

Killyman really needed a goal but it never looked likely and their keeper Emmett Meehan did well to deny Davy Harte a goal with 15 minutes remaining. Shea Gates registered his second of the evening before the game was finished as a contest when Davy Harte converted a late penalty.

Errigal now await the winners of Glenelly and Brocagh, knowing an improved performance will be necessary.
