Errigal Ladies Crowned Senior Champions

Errigal Ciaran Senior ladies team claimed the county title at Healy Park on Saturday when they saw off the challenge of Dungannon on a scoreline 0-10 to 0-4.

The Dunmoyle girls were on top in all areas of the field building a decent 0-9 to 0-3 lead at the break. Scores from Maria Canavan and Aoife Horisk put them in a good position before Dungannon keeper Marciana denied Horisk with a superb stop. Faye Loughran eventually opened the scoring for Dungannon but Errigal pair Horisk and Canavan combined to allow Canavan to hit her team’s fifth point of the contest.

Cara Pinkerton landed a fine point to reduce the gap once more before Horisk converted a free and Canavan scored once more. Meabh Corrigan was prominent in most of Errigal’s best play. Aine Mc Nulty converted a free but Errigal responded with a fine team move and an excellent point from Elle Mc Namee. One further Maria Canavan point wrapped up the first half scoring  0-9 to 0-3.

Scores and scoring chances were at a premium after the break. In fact there were only two points in total, one each from both sides. Aoife Horisk converted a free in the forty fourth minute for her side while Dungannon sub Maeve Lyons hit her team’s only score of the second half with ten minutes remaining.

Errigal saw out the remainder of the game and were deserving champions.
