Last season’s runners up Eskra are through to the quarter finals of this season’s Intermediate championship after a fine display saw them eclipse Edendork on a 1-16 to 0-12 scoreline at Pearse Park in Galbally on Saturday afternoon. The Emmetts were the better side in the first half but they still only led 0-7 to 0-5 at the break thanks to points from Peter Hughes, Eoin McCaffery and full back Adrian Scullion, County attacker Darren McCurry with two outstanding efforts with the outside of the boot for the St.Malachys. A McCurry free reduced the deficit to the minimum on the restart but that was as good as it got for Edendork. Even the return from injury of County keeper Niall Morgan as a second half substitute couldn’t inspire them. Cormac Arkinson, Hughes, Niall McGinn and Aaron Kelly all had points for the Emmetts while Jonathan Hackett got the only goal of the game, one of four Eskra defenders to feature on the scoresheet. Brian O’Rourke kicked three points for Edendork with McCurry getting seven but it was Eskra’s day, Hughes top scoring for them with five points.
