Fantastic Weekend For Tyrone GAA Handball

It has been a momentous day for Tyrone handball with an outstanding total of five titles claimed by players from the county at the 2013 Irish Nationals.
There has been a huge weekend of action across County Clare culminating with all the finals today, and what a day it has been for Tyrone, with Gabhainn McCrystal, Eilise McCrory, Lorcan McBride, Elizabeth McGarvey and Ciaran Cuddy all emerging triumphant from extremely competitive categories.
Gabhainn McCrystal defeated the All-Ireland minor singles and doubles champion, Clare’s Colin Crehan, in a thriller to capture the 17 & under boys title, registering a brilliant 11-7 tiebreaker victory to avenge his All-Ireland minor semi-final loss.
And Eilise McCrory continued her remarkable rise in handball this year as she added to her recent All-Ireland under-15 success by overcoming the formidable challenge of All-Ireland under-16 title holder Niamh Coleman to lift the girls 15 & under title.
Lorcan McBride survived the biggest field of the weekend and wrapped up an impressive sequence of victories by defeating number one seed Eoghain McGinnity to take the boys 11 & under prize in great style, while Elizabeth McGarvey ousted the top seed in the girls 11 and under competition, Kildare’s Mollie Dagg, to secure a wonderful success.
Ciaran Cuddy won an exciting all Tyrone final in the under-13b singles event as he secured a slender win over Darragh Canavan.
Maeve McElduff and Cormac Munroe made it an incredible seven Tyrone players involved in today’s finals, with Maeve eventually going down to All-Ireland minor champion Ciana Ni Churraoin from Galway, and Cormac losing out in the boys 13 & under decider after a great run to the final.
Sean Kerr, Caitlin Conway, Michaela McCartan and Aaron Owens all reached the semi-finals of their respective competitions as Tyrone handball took many of the plaudits at one of the biggest events on the national handball calendar…
