ACL Div 1 / 2 Playoff Final
Coalisland 2-10 Moy 1-7
It may not have been a vintage year in terms of performances, but Coalisland still managed to negotiate the relegations playoffs to retain their status as a Division 1 club for 2024. The blues found the scores that they needed when the game was in the melting pot and showed plenty of experience as Moy attempted to find a way back into the game. From Moy’s perspective it’s now two defeats in a row for them in the Division 1 / 2 playoff final.
Coalisland got off to a fast start and led 0-3 to no score inside the opening seven minutes thanks to points from Cormac O’Hagan and Sean Corr. Moy fought back and levelled the game with points from Ryan Coleman and Michael Conroy. As the game approached the half time whistle a further point apiece from Cormac O’Hagan and Adam Donaghy looked like the sides would go into the break level. However, a Peter Heron point just ahead of the break meant Coalisland went in with a single point led. Half time – Coalisland 0-5 Moy 0-4.
With the wind advantage in the second half Coalisland took control of the scoreboard. Two excellent long range frees from Sean Corr were followed up by a Paddy McNeice goal. Moy might well have folded but they brought in Eunan Deeney and Sean Cavanagh and to their credit they hit back with a point from Michael Conroy and a goal from Colm Cavanagh. If that gave them some hope Tiernan Quinn took it away smashing the ball to the Moy net inside the last ten minutes. Bailey Leonard also got on the scoresheet as the Fianna eased to a six point victory.
Final Score – Coalisland 2-10 Moy 1-7
