An attractive double bill is on the cards at Healy Park this evening when the first semi finals in both the Power NI Intermediate and Senior championships take place. Eskra and Gortin do battle in the opening game in a contest that looks too close to call.

The Emmetts showed their title credentials in the opening round when accounting for a fancied Stewartstown side before seeing off the challenge of Urney last time out. On both occasions they went in as underdogs but that’s a tag that suits them and they will be looking for big displays from Adrian Scullion, Niall McGinn, Paul Marlow, Joe McCarroll and County attacker Peter Hughes.

Gortin have played three games to get this far and they have all been at Healy Park. They had a comfortable win over neighbours Clann na Gael in the first round before edging past last season’s beaten finalists Galbally in a contest that required a replay to decide. Key players for the St.Patricks include Daniel Ward, Barry Daly, Shane Clarke, Diarmuid McNulty and top scorer Kevin Mossey.

The second game brings together defending senior champions Dromore and a Killyclogher side who are bidding to reach the final for the first time since 2003 when they won their first and so far only O’Neill Cup. The St.Dympnas weren’t at their best when accounting for Eglish in the first round but showed their true form when scoring an emphatic victory over Ardboe last time out. They will look for big performances from Ryman McMenamin, Cathal McCarron, Sean O’Neill, Ronan McNabb and Eoin McCusker.

Killyclogher may be the outsiders in the semi finals but that a tag that they will no doubt relish. They showed their battling qualities to stage a late rally to see off Kildress at the first hurdle before a strong first half display helped lay the foundations for a quarter final win over Derrylaughan. They will badly miss the services of County defender Dermot Carlin but can still call on the likes of Leo Meenan, Gary Wallace, Ryan McAleer, Mark Bradley and Eoghan Bradley.
