Fintona moved into third position in the league following this hard fought win at home to a determined Glenelly side. The Pearses led 0-5 to 0-3 at the break following points from Niall Mellon, Jason Donnelly and 0-3 from Aaron Mc Carney. The Glenelly scores in the first half came from Seamus Harkin (0-2) and Ronan O’Kane. This was a very competitive and intense game where defences were to the fore.
The standard of play was maintained throughout the second half as the visitors fought hard for a result. The sides were level at 0-6 apiece ten minutes into the second period as Harkin, Kearney and Conal Mc Cullagh all found the target for Glenelly. In a tight game like this a goal was always going to be decisive and it came midway through the second half following a goalmouth scramble. Veteran forward Mark Donnelly finished it to the Glenelly net restoring the home side’s lead and in spite of the visitors best efforts they could not stop Fintona edging the game 1-8 to 0-9. This win and ensured the Pearses good run continues and they now find themselves in third position in the league.
