First League Points For The Ladies

Tyrone came back from being seven points behind at half-time to record their first win of the season in the Lidl National Football League in Swinford Amenity Park.
Mayo settled best and, making good use of the breeze, moved ahead thanks to a Sinead Walsh free and a point from play by Milly Sheridan.
Chloe McCaffrey opened the scoring for Tyrone but the Westerners began to go through the gears and points from Ciara Durkin and Walsh extended the Mayo lead.
McCaffrey converted a free before a wonderful strike from Aoife McGahan had Tyrone back in the contest. The impressive Sinead Walsh showed her class as she hit four unanswered points for her side.
Tyrone continued to work hard and battled their way back into the game with bay a converted McCaffrey free and a point from play by Meabh Mallon. However Mayo finished the half with a slice of good fortune as Clodagh Keane found the net with a composed finish to leave the half time score Mayo 1-9 to 0-5 in front.
Tyrone played with the advantage of the elements after the restart striking four points without reply. However a second goal from Sinead Walsh gave Mayo a boost before they lost Danielle Caldwell after the captain was also shown a yellow.
The Red Hands continued to busy themselves chasing down the lead with two McCaffrey frees and a point by Niamh O’Neill putting pressure on the home side. Mayo stretched the lead but a goal from Sorcha Gormley had the teams level as momentum began to swing in Tyrone’s direction.
As the clock continued to tick Erin Murray pointed to put Mayo ahead again but Niamh O’Neill fired over two late points to put Tyrone ahead for the first time. Kayla Doherty had a chance in the final seconds to win it for the westerners but her shot was brilliantly saved by Amelia Coyle in the Tyrone goals and Darren McCann’s headed up the road buoyed by their display and the win.
