First Mac Rory Win For Omagh CBS

Omagh CBS somewhat laboured to a 4pt win over St. Paul’s Bessbrook in Rd 2 of the MacRory Cup today. Played in Carrickcruppen, the game was a good contest throughout. Omagh started the 1st half brighter and registered early points from Mark Kennedy, Eoghan Donnelly and Peter Colton. Some resolute defending from Omagh kept St. Paul’s at bay.
Mark Kennedy then goaled on a break away counter attack to put Omagh in the driving seat. However, St. Paul’s replied with a 2pter from Ronan Martin. This was cancelled out by a Diarmuid Martin 2pter for Omagh before St. Paul’s centre half back Jarlath O’Neill raced through to score a brace of pts. Peter Colton replied with a late pt to leave the half time score of Omagh CBS 1-06 St. Paul’s 0-04
The second half saw St. Paul’s come out with more purpose. A Conor Dunne ’45 set the ball rolling before Calvin Mooney free coupled with a Ronan Martin effort left just 2pts between the sides after 12mins. A Diarmuid Martin pt eased some of the pressure for Omagh but with the Kevlin Road lads taking the ball into the tackle on more than one occasion, the game came quite turgid. Another Ronan Martin point for St. Paul’s kept the Bessbrook lads in touch. With less than 8mins left, Omagh reasserted control to some degree and points were kicked by Peter Colton (free), Diarmuid Martin & Eoghan Donnelly. A late effort from Jarlath O’Neill
