Saturday 03.12.2011

St Patrick’s Keady 3-7 St Patrick’s Dungannon 0-5
St Patrick’s Keady emulated their hurlers by defeating the Academy to collect an Ulster Colleges’ title on Saturday at Clonmore.
They were the dominant side from start to finish of this Fr Davies Cup final – even against the breeze in the opening half – but late goals gave it a more one-sided look than the losers’ contribution deserved.
At the half-time break Keady were a point ahead, 1-3 to 0-5, thanks to a goal from Jane Lavery.
Caoimhe Rafferty, Cora McNulty and Aisling Jordan all played well for the Academy – but it was their full-back Rebecca Barker who was the star of the show particularly during the second half.
The game was still close during the third quarter, with Michelle Morgan’s frees edging Keady further ahead, before a 47th minute goal from Eadaoin Murphy wrapped up the win.
Morgan’s goal a few minutes from time widened the gap that the excellent play of Aoife Murphy, Caoimhe Shortt and Michelle McParland helped create.
Keady now play a Leinster side in the All-Ireland series
