Sat 7th April saw a bit of history as it is almost fifteen years since these local rivals last met at this level. Mna Na Deirge faced Aghyaran in Castlederg with referee on the day Stephen McNamee. The game finished 2-07 to 1-09 to Mna Na Deirge Captain for Aghyaran Kellie Meehan & Captain for Castlederg Marie Harper.

This was the opening league game for these 2 teams and during the 1st half it was point for point between them. It appeared that Aghyaran had left their shooting boots back at home with their forwards guilty of missing several great scoring chances. The half time whistle saw the teams level pegging 0-5pts apiece.
The 2nd half produced some fine football and three goals with Laura McSorley scoring two for Mna Na Deirge and Stacey Dolan hitting the net for Aghyaran. It has to be said Castlederg goalkeeper Colleen Gallagher kept her team in this match with some excellent saves. Scorers for Castlederg Leah Lynch 2 pts from frees, Laura Mc Sorley 2gls 2pts, Louise Timoney 2pts, Bridget Coyle 1pt. Aghyaran scorers Nicola McMenamin 5pts, Lucy McMenamin 2pts, Stacey Dolan 1gl 1pt, Claire Gillespie 1pt.
Players who played well and made an impact for Castlederg were Laura McSorley who will be hard to hold this season, Colleen Gallagher and Angie Stephenson. For Aghyaran you had the ever reliable Kellie Meehan who dominated the half back line with Nichola Mc Menamin, Lucy Mc Menamin & Claire Gillespie making their mark on the game also. Aghyaran will need to sharpen up on the shooting having hit 18 wides and at least 2 goals being kept out by good goalkeeping from the Derg keeper. Next game for Aghyaran is a home game to Galbally on Monday 16th April.

Errigal ladies opened their league campaign for the year with a match against their local rivals St Macartans but came up short on the day losing out 2-9 to 0-10. The Errigal girls began in confident manner and opened the scoring with a point but Macartans settled into their rhythm and landed scores from Joline Donelly 0-1, Cathy Donnelly 1-1and Paula Donnelly 0-1. However Errigal rallied and landed the next 4 points to narrow the gap to a point. Elaine Kelly finished the scoring for the half for Macartans to leave the half time score 1-4 to St.Macs and 0-5 to Errigal.
In the second half Errigal again opened the scoring with a point before St. Macs responded with points apiece from Elaine Kelly and Joline Donnelly. Errigal narrowed the gap with a further point but back again came St Macs with two points from Cathy Donnelly. The hard working Niamh Mc Girr got her name on the scoring list but Errigal replied with two further points to keep them in the game. However a Joline Donnelly goal followed by another Niamh Mc Girr point sealed the win for Macartans.
In a good win Macartans were best served by Shauna Mc Girr and Maura Kelly while Aine Canavan was the standout player for Errigal.
