Glenelly 3.10 Errigal Ciarán 2.13
The cliche a game of two halves is a very fitting way to describe this game which took place in Gortin. A strong organised Errigal outfit took full advantage of the strong wind in the first half with great displays coming from Shannon Quinn, Lycrecia Quinn and Selena Oguz. Glenelly battled hard through Aisling O’Kane, Grace McCullagh and Patricia Morris but it was Errigal with the wind at their backs who led at the half time on a scoreline of 2.11 to 1.3.
Glenelly began the second half brightly with a superb goal through midfielder Grace McCullagh and from there Glenelly had a spring in their step. Siobhan Sheerin and Fionamarie Devlin took crucial scores which saw Glenelly come back into the game. Errigal began to step up the pace yet again but found it very hard to break down a very determined and feisty Glenelly defence led by Michaela Morris who was outstanding. Both teams had chances to claim victory in the latter stages of the game but Glenelly managed to secure a draw through County star Aisling O’Kane’s late goal.
Glenelly 7.13 Donaghmore 2.5
A huge win for Glenelly tonight as they took on a youthful Donaghmore who are still getting to grips with step up to Grade 1 football. Glenelly made great use of their experience through Nicola Bradley, Aisling O’Kane and Patricia Morris as they capitalised on any lapses from the visitors. Donaghmore showed promise at times through Emma Hegarty, Aisling Hegarty and Rebecca McCrory. Elaine Doherty, Eva Hicks, Patricia Morris and Siobhan Sheerin were the main threats from Glenelly in the forward line. In a well organised and combative defence Patricia Anne Kearney, Nicola Bradley with the assistance of Mary Carmel Kearney kept Donaghmore’s chances of scoring to the minimum. An overall hardworking effort from both teams but ultimately Glenelly looked the more superior from the word go.
