Goals Prove Costly For Tyrone Camogs
Sunday 23.03.2014

Tyrone travelled to St Rynaghs GAA in County Offaly for their 3rd NCL fixture of the year with Kerry as the opposition. It was a calm dry day and with the conditions perfect Kerry made the perfect start capitalising on a free awarded within the first minute.
The game remained close and physical with neither side holding back.
Tyrone then had a goal mouth opportunity that went just wide but from the resulting puck out Aisling Corr was awarded a free which she converted for
the Red Hands first point.
Kerry added two 50 metre frees as they kept the pressure on the Tyrone back line. Emma Fitzgerald and Julie Lagan ensured Tyrone’s defence held strong in spite of the intense Kerry pressure.
Eventually however the pressure told and a Kerry free from just outside 30 metres sailed to the back of the Tyrone net.
It was a backs to the wall scenario for Tyrone but the girls refused to give in and created several chances from open play which unfortunately they failed to make the most of.
With Lagan and Emma Mc Shane settling to their tasks it was Kerry’s turn to feel the pressure and Tyrone were awarded several frees which Corr converted to narrow the gap.
Two goal line clearances by the Kerry keeper denied Tyrone what would have been a well deserved brace of goals before another free from Corr left the half time score Kerry 1-3 Tyrone 0-5.
Kerry began the second half with a pair of converted frees as once again Tyrone appeared devoid of luck in front of their opponents’ goal. Lagan and Siobhan Donnelly battled hard to keep their side in the game and it was the twenty minute mark before Kerry bagged another goal when the ball trickled over the line. Kerry were taking their opportunities better and soon added another point to their total. Just before the final whistle the winners struck for a third goal that left the final score 3-6 to 0-5 in favour of Kerry.
Meath are next up for Tyrone which should decide the final league positions and will determine if they qualify for the semis. There were some positives to take from the game despite the defeat and the defence in particular for Tyrone gave it their all.
Kerry are now top of the league and they will proceed to the semi-final.
