Tyrone Senior Camogie side produced a battling display to see off the challenge of a highly fancied Roscommon side in the third round of the Centra Camogie National Leagues played at Healy Park on Saturday afternoon.

Playing wind assisted Tyrone took a while to get to the pace of the game and by that time they trailed 0-4 to 0-2 with their scores coming from Beth Jones and Aine Cunningham. Roscommon looked assured and in control but the home side added a further brace of points to tie the game at 0-4 apiece. However with the strong breeze blowing straight down the pitch the worry for Tyrone was that sort of scoring return would not be sufficient.

The home side sensed the need for scores and rose to the challenge. Driven on by the industrious Reagan Fay,  Aine Mc Nulty and Meaghan Clarke the home side bagged two late goals to go in at the break leading to 2-4 to 0-5,

The second half began with a fine point from Beth Jones before Roscommon hit four in a row courtesy of the outstanding Orla Connolly (2) Hannah Murray and Grace Jones.

From then until the end it became a very physical contest as both sides fought for possession or opted for shots while under serious pressure. With six minutes remaining a missed penalty for Roscommon gave Tyrone hope before Reagan Fay battled her way through for a well taken and hugely valuable point.

Roscommon sensed the game was still there for the taking and put the Tyrone defence under serious sustained pressure. However the Red Hands remained resolute with goalkeeper Eimear Colton in fine form for her team. Her relieving clearances were invaluable as Roscommon reduced the deficit largely due to the free taking of centre back Orla Connolly.

With time running out Eimear Cunningham put clear day light between teams to stretch the lead to 4-6 to 0-14 as the game ended in a well deserved but hard fought win for Tyrone.
