Tyrone U14 Grade 1 Championship Final
Eglish 3-11 Galbally 0-5

Eglish turned on the style in Ardboe on Saturday afternoon to win the club’s first ever grade 1 U14 title when they proved too strong for a Galbally side who were still very much in contention going into the final quarter.

Nerves from both sides seemed to play a part early on and at the end of the opening quarter it was 0-1 each with Joe Mackin and Tiernan Corrigan the respective scorers. There was still plenty of good football on show from both sides with the respective defences very much on top though Galbally were left to rue a first half when they had seven wides to their opponents one. Brian Og McGuckin, Matthew Daly and Mackin all added points to leave Eglish leading 0-5 to 0-1 at the break.

Centre half back Daly rattled the Galbally crossbar in the opening attack of the second half and after Finbarr Quinn and Corrigan had exchanged points with McGuckin it was 0-6 to 0-3. The first goal was always going to be crucial and it was Eglish who got it with a wonderful score from Michael McElvaney who started it in his own defence and finished it with a rocket to the net. Eglish never looked back after that and two goals inside a minute from McGuckin and Mackin saw them emerge worthy winners.
