Loughmacrory 3-14 2-8 Drumragh

Loughmacrory lifted the Grade 2 Minor championship at the expense of a gallant Drumragh side, at Pearse Park Galbally on Sunday afternoon. An impressive display of attacking football from the outset saw Loughmacrory deservedly lift the title with a hat trick from Pearse McDonald and the accuracy from placed balls from Caolan Grimes features of the game.

Loughmacrory made their intentions clear from the start.  Enda Donaghy won the throw in, passed to Michael McNamee who fed Pearse McDonald to finished to the net after fourteen seconds. Aidan McCarney settled Drumragh nerves with a huge free beyond the 45 to raise an orange flag. In a hectic opening five minutes both keepers produced fine saves, before recent All Ireland winner McDonald scored his second goal in the sixth minute. In fact he almost notched a third two minutes later when his shot went wide via the post.

Drumragh began to play their way into the game and a 19th minute goal from Dylan Lowry left the minimum between them. McCarney nearly put them in front but Darragh Duddy denied him.  A third free of the half from Caolan Grimes helped the winners lead 2-6 1-4, at the break.

Loughmacrory dominated the opening twenty minutes of the second half with McDonald converting an early penalty after Ciaran McCrystal, had been fouled. Grimes was unerring from frees and brought his total to eight with a two pointer from play with ten remaining.  Odhran Curran helped himself to a brace of points as the lead extended.

McCarney did convert a late penalty and they also fired over late points from Taggart and Gormley,.  Lorcan Meenaghkicked his second of the afternoon, as a Loch side bolstered by three All Ireland medallist cruised to victory.
