Moy 2-18 Aghyaran 4-11

Moy lifted the grade 2 U19 title when they won a pulsating encounter with Aghyaran at Fintona on Wednesday evening in a contest that required extra time to decide.

The winners got off to the perfect start with a first minute goal from Ryan Lavery but the St.Davogs responded with Diarmuid McHugh converting a penalty and Barry McLaughlin also raising a green flag. On the stroke of half time Shane Mackle, who finished with a very impressive 1-11 to his name, punched to the net to give Moy a slender 2-6 to 2-5 advantage.

Moy made a good start to the second half as a Mackle brace was followed by efforts from Eoin McGeary and Lavery. Shea Gallagher and Mackle twice exchanged points to leave Moy six clear with less than ten minutes left to play. With two minutes to go a Pearse Goan goal lifted Aghyaran before McHugh held his nerve to land a free as it finished 2-13 to 3-10 at the end of normal time.

Two Mackle frees opened the scoring in extra time but Aghyaran responded with a goal from McLaughlin after Cormac McHugh had pointed to leave them just in front at halftime in extra time, 4-11 to 2-15.

Aghyaran though failed to add to their tally in the second half of extra time as Moy showed great composure to take the silverware. A Mackle free was followed by a Steve Donaghy point from play to level matters before the former landed the winning score from another placed ball.
