Having enjoyed a relatively comfortable win against Wicklow in the earlier stages of the competition Tyrone went into the semi-final with confidence. Their opposition however had other ideas and were clearly well up for the contest as Ciara Connolly got them off the mark early in the game. Eva Cullen drew the teams level after a good run but questions were being asked of the Tyrone rearguard and Sienna Gildernew in goals was kept busy by the Wicklow forwards with Aoife Molloy hitting the net for Wicklow.

A long ball from Catherine Moohan found Rhianne McLoughlin in space who also hit the net. Clara Doherty cleared a Wicklow attempt and a great ball from player of the match Emer Cunningham gave McLoughlin the opportunity to level the game. Aoife Molloy edged Wicklow out in front by the break.

Half time score Tyrone 1-2 Wicklow 1-3

Tyrone began the second period with renewed vigour and were disappointed when against the run of play Aoife Molloy extended the gap with a goal. Emer Cunningham showed real leadership and was rewarded with a score. Wicklow added further points while tit for tat scores followed and some excellent play from Gemma Daly and Niamh McElduff led to a goal from McLoughlin.

Scores from Moohan and Cunningham brought the teams level again. Points apiece left them level again when Kate Daly edged Tyrone in front and fresh from gaining her Ulster Colleges All Star, Eva Cullen was rewarded by a point and then a goal from a sideline. In a tense few minutes, Wicklow narrowed the gap to two points, but they had run out of time.

Tyrone will now meet Mayo in a replay of a draw earlier in the year.
