As sure as December brings short days and cold nights Oliver Mc Cullagh and his willing band of helpers will be putting the finishing touches to the arrangements for the annual Greencastle 5 mile road race. This year the very popular event celebrates its silver jubilee and as always will take place on December 26th . The numbers taking part each year continue to grow and if you happen to arrive in Greencastle on the morning of the run expect to see a large number of GAA jerseys mingling with the vests of various athletic clubs from all over Ireland.

Oliver is justifiably proud of the hardwork done by all involved with the race and particularly the charitable nature of the event. This year The Foyle Hospice will be the main beneficiary of the run and as an added attraction there will be a special draw for all online entrants. The prize on offer is participation in the 2011 London Marathon with flights and accomodation for two people.

This run has very often kickstarted the pre-season training regime for many hurlers, handballers and gaelic footballers so make sure you register in good time by logging on to www.greencastle5.com . The race is scheduled to start at 1:00pm
