Greencastle were pushed all the way by an under-strength Coalisland Fianna team on Friday night before emerging 0-12 to 1-5 winners. The Blues were short several key individuals as a result of a prearranged stag party but injury had also robbed Greencastle manager Barry Tracey of several of his brightest talents.

Once again Greencastle were able to rely on the free taking expertise of Mark Carson and Cahir Mc Cullagh who bagged ten points between them but they were indebted to keeper Collie Tuohey for his fine penalty save from Eoghan Carberry early in the second half. Eamon Mc Glinchey, Sean Corr and Stephen Curran all landed points for the Fianna while Kevin Corr top scored for the visitors with 1-2.

Greencastle will be delighted to have added another brace of points to their league tally but with the injuries mounting there was a further price to pay. Key defender Barry Mc Garvey broke his collarbone late in the game and seems certain to miss a significant number of games for the St Patrick’s.
