The annual St Stephen’s Day Greencastle 5m Run, which is being sponsored this year by Dalradian Gold will take place for the 28th consecutive year and looks set to break all records. The event has grown in popularity over the years with participants of all ages and all levels of fitness donning their running gear to tackle the challenging course.

Nearly every GAA club in the county, and many from all over the north, is represented as club players use the December 26th outing for their first training session of the new season. It is a chance to stretch the muscles, open the lungs, get the heart pumping and remove some of the excesses of the festive season.

International athletes Gareth Turnbull and Maria Mc Cambridge still hold the course records but for most competitors the challenge of Conway’s Hill is enough of a motivation and getting round the course successfully in a reasonable time is satisfaction in itself.

While many people will decide on the day to travel up and participate others have already taken advantage of the online registration to enter. Online entries are being taken at www.greencastle5.com hundreds have already used this facility to get their details logged. Further information from the evenrt can be obtained on nirunning.co.uk who will be following the event live on the day.

Follow all the build up on greencastleroadrun on Facebook. The event gets underway at 1:00pm with the Prizegiving taking place at 2:30pm in the Community Centre.
