Greencastle booked their place in the semi final and a clash with Galbally when they had the minimum to spare over near neighbours Gortin in Fintona on Monday evening. It finished 0-10 to 0-9 after a hard-fought encounter where no side gave an inch, as expected.

The winners began the game well with points from Mark Carson [2] and Cahir McCullagh. By that stage though they were down to fourteen men after midfielder Mark Conway had collected a second yellow card. Efforts from Ruairi Keenan, Sean Og McAleer, Peter Keenan and Peter Clarke saw Gortin draw level. It was Greencastle though who finished the first half on top with a Carson brace giving them a 0-6 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Substitute Peter Fox added to the Greencastle lead on the restart but then Gortin enjoyed a good spell. A superb Keenan brace either side of a free from McAleer left it 0-7 apiece. The momentum was all with Gortin at this stage but they failed to take their chances on a night when they had nine wides to their opponents two.

McCullagh edged Greencastle back in front from a free before Gortin were reduced to fourteen men when midfielder Keenan picked up a second yellow card. Carson then made it 0-10 to 0-7 but Gortin rallied with late scores from Brian McGarvey and McAleer. However in spite of some serious pressure from their opponents Sean Teague’s men held out to make it through to the semi final.
