Please find below the proposed U8 Go-Games football groups for Saturday 25th August 2012. Could all clubs please report to the host venue for 10.30am. Please note host clubs are responsible for coordinating fixtures and supplying referees at each blitz, If clubs are not attending it is important they inform Go-Games coordinator Des O’Doherty 07845467572 (Email: go-games.coordinator.tyrone@gaa.ie) as early as possible.
Below the groups are the Go-Games Guidance/Rules to be distributed to mentors, group coordinators and referees in each club.
Also attached are details about the GAA RESPECT Initiative which is being developed to ensure that Gaelic Games in Tyrone are promoted in a positive manner and an environment which is conducive to ensuring that ALL participants achieve their full potential. All coordinators and host clubs are asked to implement these measures during the Go-Games blitzes.

Go-Games Guidance/Rules

Referees:
Try and get them organised in advance of blitz and appraise them of the rules below. If not let them know rules in the morning before commencing the blitz:

General Rules:
1. Children must have fun, enjoy themselves and have good time etc
2. Every U8 child in Tír Eoghain must have the opportunity to play meaningful games in an informal, safe and enjoyable environment.
3. All mentors and clubs should implement the “Give Respect Get Respect” initiative and practice the “Code of Behaviour when Working with Underage Players”

Playing Rules
Before and after the game players line up and shake hands with opposing players and referee. Play commences with a throw-in in the middle of the field
A defender may advance 5m for a kick out
‘Two Touch’ Rule applies – players are restricted to one bounce and one toe tap or two toe taps per possession.
Points only
Person fouled takes free (not the club sharp shooter unless that player is fouled)
Side line ball – person nearest ball when it goes out takes it
Over carrying – again if appropriate nearest person from opposing team takes free kick
When a defender plays the ball over his/her own end line, the other team are awarded a free kick from the 20 metres from ground/hands

Useful advice: Start all games at same time and finish them at same time
For U8s 6/7 a side is recommended

Please Note:
If anyone complains about referee they are taking the competition too seriously at this age group
If mentor/parents etc are shouting etc they need to be reminded of give respect/get respect initiative and GAA code of behaviour when working with underage players
Mentors should wear give “respect get respect bibs”
