Tyrone’s Minor Run Ends In Brewster Park
Tyrone find themselves a point ahead against Cavan at the break 1-4 to 0-6 and in truth they could be leading by as much as ten points having created five great chances of goals but managing to convert only one. the first chance came within twenty seconds when Mc Curry broke through but was denied by a brilliant save from the Cavan keeper O’mara. Cavan opened up a three point lead by the third minute before Mc Curry again broke and this time he found Daniel Mc Nulty who finished to the net to leave the sides level. Cavan then missed a penalty through Andrew Graham before Tyrone missed two more great goal scoring chances through Munroe and Hackett. It remained nip and tuck for the rest of the half but with Darren McCurry and Cahir Mc Cullagh showing well Tyrone just about deserve their half time lead. Indeed it was a free from the Edendork youngster that edged the red hands ahead just before the break.
Tyrone’s grip on the all Ireland minor title looked precarious for long periods in the second half and then ended completely at the hands of a very committed and well organised Cavan team. Corner forward Conor Finnegan struck twice for goals in the last ten minutes to put Cavan five points ahead at one stage but in truth Cavan were the better side throughout as Tyrone survived on scraps all evening. A late Sean Molloy goal narrowed the gap to two points with time almost up but try as they might they failed to really threaten again and Cavan held on to win deservingly 2-13 to 2-10.
