HANDBALL| Double All Ireland Success For Loughmacrory Family
Monday 17.10.2016
Loughmacrory brother and sister Antoin and Mairead Fox created history on Sunday in their home court when they registered a sensational all Ireland Double in the 2016 60 x 30 handball championships.
Mairead became only the second player from Tyrone to claim the gold medal in the girls All Ireland under 14 singles championship when she defeated Kilkenny’s Roisin O’Keefe in the most thrilling match of the day securing a 15-12 tie breaker win.
Her brother Antoin then secured Tyrone’s first ever title success in the blue riband event at juvenile level with an impressive under 16s triumph over Kerry’s Daire Keane.
The Tyrone pair were Ulster’s only winners in the All Ireland 60 x 30 championship finals as Elizabeth Mc Garvey and Ciara Mullan picked up silver medals after losing to Kildare in the girls under 16 doubles final.
