Tyrone Intermediate champions Killeeshil travelled to Kinawley for their Ulster Club clash but left disappointed after the home side hit a goal and two points late in the game to take the win.

This was a really competitive and very entertaining game between two well matched sides. Killeeshil began strongly hitting 1-3 without reply inside the opening six minutes. Shannon Stevenson netted her team’s goal after three minutes while Chloe Collins, Grainne Rafferty and Alannah Donnelly added points during a purple patch for their team.

The home side recovered from a nervy start to hit the net twice in a minute courtesy of Joanne Doonan and Niamh Mc Manus. Full forward and captain Doonan was the outstanding player on the pitch and finished the game with 2-7 to her name. The 1-2 she hit in the final four minutes of the game proved to be the key scores and in fact ended Killeeshil’s interest in the Ulster Club.

This was a high quality game between two well matched sides with both creating plenty of chances. Grainne Rafferty, Emma Mulgrew, Orla Mulgrew, Shannon Stephenson and Cathy Donaghy were absolutely outstanding for their side and certainly did not deserve to be on the losing team. However Kinawley showed considerable patience and resilience to earn the win with Courtney Murphy, Lisa Maguire, Niamh Mc Manus, Áine Mc Manus and Danielle Maguire all providing excellent support for the free scoring Doonan.

Kinawley led 2-4 to 1-4 at the break but Killeeshil produced an impressive second half to lead with five minutes remaining. The Tyrone champions outscored their opponents 1-4 to a single point during the course of the first twenty minutes of the half. Grainne Rafferty hit four points while Louise Kelly found the net.

A Joanne Doonan point narrowed the Killeeshil lead to two but wing back Orla Mulgrew stretched the lead once more with a superb run and finish. Unfortunately for the Tyrone side that was to be their last score of the match and Doonan hit the last three scores of the game to seal the win for Kinawley.

Final score: Kinawley 3-8, Killeeshil 2-9
