There was heartbreak for Omagh in the Danske Bank Corn na nOg final at Derrytresk on Saturday afternoon when they lost by the minimum margin to St.Pats Maghera in a pulsating encounter. The Brothers led 2-3 to 0-4 at the break with impressive midfielder Charlie Donnelly grabbing both of their goals, Nathan Farry and Shea Birt among the points for their respective sides.

Third quarter goals from Donnelly and substitute Charlie McCrory saw Omagh CBS extend their advantage to ten points and they looked to be in a very strong position at that stage. Maghera though staged a superb comeback with points from Ciaran Chambers, Tiarnan McCormack and Danny McDermott coupled with a Conor Coyle goal. With the game in injury time Conor Downey sent over the equaliser to force extra time, 4-5 to 1-14.

Chambers edged Maghera in front but then a brilliant goal from McCrory saw the lead change hands again. A well taken major from substitute Lee O’Neill saw the Derry school lead by two at halftime in extra time. A second goal from O’Neill looked to be the decisive blow but a couple of Donnelly points as well as one from centre half back Farry saw the gap trimmed to the minimum margin. St.Pats Maghera though held on to win a thriller, 3-16 to 5-9.
