Derrytresk made it through to the last eight of the Donnelly Junior Championship after a convincing 1-13 to 0-11 win over Errigal Thirds at Donaghmore on Friday night.

Playing into a strong breeze in the first half they fell 0-3 to 0-2 behind after thirteen minutes when Errigal captain Dara Tierney scored. However two minutes later a fisted goal from Ronan O’Neill, followed almost immediately by a fabulous point from the boot of Liam Slater, put Derrytresk three up and in the driving seat.

Errigal landed points through Aodhan Mc Cullough (2) and Caolan Tierney to level the game but Derrytresk reached the break two up following scores from Caolan Corr, Niall Gavin and Mickey Robinson while Shane Hackett responded for the Dunmoyle outfit.

Half Time Score: Derrytresk 1:6, Errigal Thirds 0-7.

Errigal were on the back foot from early in the second half as Derrytresk used all their experience to turn the game in their favour. Niall Gavin’s accuracy from frees, the work-rate of Cathal O’Neill and Caolan Corr and the commitment and ball winning ability of Conor Gavin ensured that in spite of the best efforts of Errigal the Hill Men made it through to the quarter finals on a final score of 1-13 to 0-11. They can now look forward to a quarter final meeting with the winners of the replay between Tattyreagh and Beragh.
