Historic Week for Augher & Aghaloo
Thursday 28.10.2010
Clogher Valley clubs Aghaloo and Augher are celebrating major moments in their respective histories this week, writes Damien Donnelly.
Augher stepped up to the plate first on county final day last Sunday in Healy Park when the 1985 O’Neill Cup winning St Macartan’s squad were honoured as the Silver Jubilee Champions.
The big crowd at Omagh responded with warm applause as the St Macartan’s players were introduced at half-time in the senior decider.
Victory over Gortin 25 years ago sealed Augher’s third Tyrone title following on from their first senior showpiece success in 1976(v Ardboe) and a second in 1982(v Dromore).
Aghaloo O’Neill’s, meantime, will recall key events and victories in their own history when a special Gala Night takes place this Saturday(October 30th) at the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan.
People associated with Aghaloo past and present will gather at the Monaghan venue to reflect on many memories down through the years and renew football friendships.
Like all clubs, there have been ups and downs in Aghaloo circles but the great spirit of people within the club shone through like a beacon of hope at all times.
Saturday represents a night when style, nostalgia and entertainment will be mixing together to formulate a truly memorable milestone occasion in the annals of Aghaloo O’Neill’s GAC.
