Holders Dungannon are back in another BEGLEYS SPORTS Division one league final after producing a storming comeback in Dunmoyle to beat Errigal Ciaran after extra time in a cracking encounter to set up a decider with Trillick.
The home side looked well on their way to the decider when leading by seven points early in the second half with the wind at their backs but the Clarkes showed grit and determinaton to fight back to such an extent that it took a converted two point free from Ruairi Canavan for Errigal Ciaran to force extra time. In extra time the reigning champions dominated to such an extent that they held their opponents scoreless while hitting 1-7 themselves.
James Quinn got in for a Dungannon goal after only four minutes but Errigal Ciaran wasted no time in responding with a major of their own from Canavan. Joe Oguz powered through for a couple of great scores with Canavan getting another brace while Paddy and James Quinn supplied points for the visitors.
Errigal Ciaran led 1-7 to 1-5 at the break despite having played against the wind and when two early Canavan points were followed by a Tomas Mullin goal in the 38th minute it looked all over bar the shouting. Dungannon made a few changes which gave them renewed enery and a Lorcan Mallon point was followed by a Paddy Quinn goal before Canavan replied at the other end of the field. Quinn then bagged his second goal but a brace of two pointers from frees from Canavan looked to have done enough. Paul Donaghy though expertly tucked away a 58th minute penalty before substitute Dylan O’Hagan looked to have won it four minutes into injury time only for Canavan to save the day as it finished 2-16 to 5-7.
In extra time Dungannon looked the sharper side and points from Donaghy, Paddy Quinn and James Quinn coupled with a well take Ryan Jones goal gave them victory.
