A good week for Tyrone schools continued at Drumragh on Tuesday afternoon when Holy Cross Strabane annexed the Danske Bank McAvoy Cup, the third Ulster schools title to come to the Red Hand County in six days.

The winners got off to a great start with a 5th minute David Conway goal coming either side of two points from Oisin McGillion. Despite playing against the wind though Lismore from Craigavon rallied to close the gap with scores from Ruairi McShane, Conner Byrne and Shea Conway. In the closing stages of the half though Holy Cross upped the tempo and a brace each from McGillion and Jake O’Neill coupled with one from Conway saw them lead 1-7 to 0-3 at the short whistle.

Lismore though got off to the best possible start to the second half when Peadar McParland found the net in the first attack and when points followed from McParland, Byrne (2) and McShane the sides were level at 1-7 each with 39 minutes played.

Holy Cross looked to be in trouble but they held their nerve to play some superb football in the final quarter against the wind. Both midfielders Aaron McGrath and O’Neill pointed while centre half forward McGillion took his personal haul to 0-7 as they hit five scores on the trot. With the game in injury time Michael McConville palmed in a second Lismore goal but Holy Cross took the silverware on a 1-12 to 2-7 scoreline.
