Holy Trinity College Cookstown’s hopes of making it back to back All Ireland vocational schools titles came to an end this afternoon in Croke Park when they lost out by a single point to Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School Granard on a scoreline of 2-13 to 2-12 after a pulsating second half comeback. The Tyrone school will rue a very disappointing opening half which saw Cnoc Mhuire dictate the play for long periods in spite of being reduced to fourteen men after star midfielder Aidan Mc Elligott was sent off for a second yellow card late in the opening half. However the Longford lads refused to allow that to unsettle them and with Rian Brady, David Mc Givney and Nigel Rabbit to the fore the Granard team reached the break in total control leading 2-7 to 1-4.
Cnoc Mhuire began the second half well with two early points but after Holy Trinity introduced Damian Woods and Jason Rocks the comeback really began. Rocks hit a goal and a point and Woods caused mayhem in the Cnoc Mhuire defence as the Tyrone school pushed hard for the line. They had reduced the gap to a single point with fifty nine minutes on the clock but unfortunately were unable to get the equaliser in spite of considerable late pressure. Cnoc Mhuire held on but only just to win the title on a score of 2-13 to 2-12.
