Holy Trinity Cookstown 2-14 OLSP Castleblayney 4-9

Holy Trinity Cookstown just came up short on Thursday afternoon in their efforts to win the Corn Colmcille title when they lost by the minimum margin to OLSP Castleblayney in a cracking encounter at Garvaghey.

An early Daniel McGinnity goal gave the Monaghan lads the perfect start and it was that score that separated the two sides at half time with Rory Grimes, Conn McKeown, Michael Gartland and Shea Kelly among the points for their respective sides.

Neasan Curran and Harry Tavey exchanged points on the restart before Holy Trinity enjoyed a good spell. Midfielder Conan Crozier was on target as were McKeown and Grimes to leave it level pegging with twenty minutes to go, 1-8 to 0-11.

It was anybody’s game at that stage but two quickfire goals from Castleblaney midfielder Blake Duffy gave Castleblaney the edge. Holy Trinity responded with points from Grimes and McKown before the latter found the net. The winners though came straight down the field for Gartland to raise a green flag and while McKeown got a second goal not long after Holy Trinity’s valiant efforts just came up short.

Holy Trinity Cookstown scorers: C McKeown 2-4, R Grimes 0-6, J McElhatton 0-1, N Curran 0-1, C Crozier 0-1, S Grimes 0-1

OLSP Castleblaney scorers: B Duffy 2-2, D McGinnity 1-1, M Gartland 1-1, H Tavey 0-2, S Kelly 0-2, T Coleman 0-1
