Holy Trinity College Cookstown lost out to Gallen Community School from Offaly this afternoon in Ballyconnell going down by two points.  The Cookstown lads played against the wind in the first half but started brightly and were 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after eight minutes through points from Michael Cassidy, Danny McNulty and Matthew Heagney.

The remainder of the first half however belonged to the Offaly side and they went into the break 1-9 to 0-6 up thanks in part to an Aaron McDonagh goal.

With the wind at their backs in the second half Holy Trinity halved the lead inside three minutes thanks to scores from Brendan Burns, Matthew Heagney and Shea Coney.   Unfortunately that was as good as it got for the Cookstown school.  Gallen stretched the lead to six points with only five minutes to go.

In the closing minutes Coney and Heagney reduced the lead to three before two Holy Trinity defenders collided and allowed Darragh Keenaghan to soccer style the ball from 25 yards around John McCourt and roll into the net.

Holy Trinity ddn’t give up and inside a minute later Kieran McGeary blasted the ball to the Offally net to reduce the lead.  Deep in injury time Danny McNulty had no choice to attempt to goal from a 20 metre free but unfortunately the ball flew over the bar.

Final Score – Holy Trinity College 1-14 Gallen Community School 2-13
