Holy Trinity Mac Rory Campaign Gets Underway

South West Donegal 2-6 0-4 Holy Trinity Cookstown

South West Donegal had the perfect introduction to MacRory Cup football with a comfortable victory over Holy Trinity in Banagher. Goals in the early stages of each half paving the way for victory for the Donegal amalgamation comprising of 5 schools in their debut outing.

A goal in the 5th minute gave the Donegal men the perfect start, Max Campbell did well to keep Gavin Doherty’s effort for a point in play before teeing up Liam Bhreathnach to palm to the net.

Playing with the advantage of a strong breeze a brace of Shane Callaghan points and a converted free from Danny Brown saw the lead extended to six, with ten minutes played. Jamie Concannon opened Holy Trinity’s account before midfielder Darragh Hennigan’s shot flew over the bar.

Both sides struggled with the swirling breeze as only Conor Mallon registered a score for Holy Trinity in the remainder of the half however Danny Brown saw an effort on goal come back off the post, just before the interval.

Any hopes of a Cookstown comeback were quickly extinguished when Shane Callaghan’s shot hit the net in the 35th minute.

A long range point from Concannon and a free converted by Karol Wawkryniewicz was the Tyrone schools response on a disappointing afternoon. Max Campbell and Brown getting on the second half scoresheet for the victors.
