Holy Trinity Cookstown completed a great twenty four hours for the school when they retained their Markey Cup title at the expense of St.Ciarans Ballygawley at Healy Park on Thursday afternoon. The holders landed the opening four points of the game with Kieran McGeary and Michael Cassidy among their points before three frees from the boot of Sean Hackett took St.Ciarans back into contention. As the first half came to a close Holy Trinity tagged on points from Declan McClure and Daryl Magee to lead 0-7 to 0-3. Neil Hagan and Hackett reduced the deficit on the restart but that was as good as it got for St.Ciarans as the holders pulled away in the final quarter with efforts from McGeary, Anthony Devlin, John Loughran and Danny McNulty as they ran out 0-14 to 0-6 winners. They now meet the Munster champions in the All Ireland semi final as they bid to go one step further than last season and reach the Croke Park decider.
