Holy Trinity Cookstown annexed the Danske Bank Treanor Cup at Pearse Og Park in Armagh on Tuesday afternoon when two late points gave them a thrilling 1-10 to 1-8 victory over St.Paul’s Bessbrook. The Armagh lads struck for a 19th minute goal from full forward Andrew Cunningham to put them two points in front. They didn’t score for the rest of the half however as Shea Lawn banged in a goal to go along with five points to leave Holy Trinity 1-6 to 1-2 in front at the short whistle, Odhran Nugent having opened their account.

A Lawn free increased that advantage on the resumption before Bessbrook hit back. Cunningham, Piaras Woods and Patrick McVerry all had points with Cookstown’s sole response coming from wing half back Jack Martin. With less than ten minutes to go Bessbrook midfielder Fergal O’Brien levelled matters and things looked good for them at that stage. Holy Trinity though dug deep with an inspirational point from midfielder and team Captain Blaine Ryan before substitute Matthew Donaghy hit the insurance score deep into injury time as it finished 1-10 to 1-8.
