There were defeats today in the National League for our Senior hurlers and the Tyrone senior ladies football team. The hurlers lost heavily against Wicklow having conceded a goal inside the opening minute.

The ladies footballers  hosted Donegal at Aghyaran on Sunday but it would be fair to say the small pitch did not suit Tyrone’s style of play and their opponents were comfortable 3-9 to 1-8 winners with the Tyrone goal coming very late in the game courtesy of Niamh O’Neill.

The ladies game was tight for the opening quarter but from then on Donegal showed their class. The Donegal defence managed to reduce the Tyrone scoring threat with tenacious tackling and lots of hard work while they enjoyed plenty of possession themselves.

The strong running of  Susanne White, Katie Dowds and Evelyn Mc Ginley caused all sorts of problems for the Red Hands while the half backs Tara Hegarty and Feena Mc Manamon were involved in everything good their side did.

Donegal reached the break leading 1-6 to 0-4 with their goal coming from Cara Mc Garvey and by half time the signs were ominous for the home side. Donegal continues to dominate the game and a brace of goals from the highly influential Katie Dowds early in the second half ended the game as a contest.

It was not a great day for the senior hurlers either as they lost out to a very sharp and hard working Wicklow side in their National League encounter.

Tyrone were far from their best in the second half as the visitors took control and ran out convincing 3-14 to 0-15 winners.  Red Hand scorers on the day were James Mc Cann 0-1, Ciaran Mc Gill 0-4, Niall Mc Garel 0-3, Mickey Little 0-1 and Aidy Kelly 0-6. Wicklow found the net three times with Jack Phelan 1-4, Seanie Germaine 1-3 and Andrew Kavanagh 1-00 each on target. There were also points from Connor Mc Nally, Tom Collins, Padraig Dorman  and Sam O’Dowd .
