Greencastle put the disappointment of last week’s championship defeat behind them to record a superb 2-13 to 1-8 win over Trillick today. The home side began well with a Martin Conway goal straight from the throw in and the boost of the early goal settled Sean Teague’s side as they produced a very commanding win. Cahir Mc Cullagh landed three points for his team while John Mc Cullagh, who had an outstanding game for his side was also on target in the first half as was Barry Mc Garvey. Greencastle led 1-5 to 0-4 at the break with Trillick’s scores coming from Mattie Donnelly, Daire Gallagher and Niall Gormley.
The home side maintained their good form in the second half as Enda Clarke and John Mc Cullagh dominated play for the winners. The former county minor hit four points in an excellent display of hard work, scoring prowess and skill. Trillick managed to close the gap to four points following a goal from Paddy Corry but Greencastle responded well and when Enda Clarke hit the net for a second Greencastle goal the game was over and the home side ran out convincing winners. Peter Teague, Conor and Mark Carson, Emmett Clarke were on target for their side with points while Paddy Corry and Niall Gormley were second half scorers for Trillick.
This result virtually secures Greencastle’s place in senior football for next year but Trillick know they face a real battle if they are to avoid the drop to Division Two.
