Tyrone travelled to Breffini Park Cavan in pursuit of yet another Masters final and their old enemies Dublin stood in their way.

Tyrone set the tone from the throw in when Barry Collins gained possession and released his midfield partner Johnny O’Neill to race through and split the posts. This was the start the reigning champions were looking for. Tyrone were dominating early doors and their next score came from the mercurial Stephen O’Neill after the Dublin keeper misjudged a searching ball into the Dublin square and O’Neill gained possession kept his composure and passed into the Dublin net closely followed up by a Michael Anderson point.

Tyrone had firmly set out their intentions of what was to come.Dublin replied with a Bernard Brogan free but Tyrone dominated most of the play and got an exquisite point from the left boot of Stephen O’Neill from near the end line rolling back the years from his senior days.

Dublin tried to get a foothold in the game but to no avail as the Tyrone defence were in no mood to give much away. They did respond with a Declan Lally point closely followed by a Mark Donnelly point. Dublin then got a neat score from the boot of their talisman Bernard Brogan. Thereafter Tyrone took over with a great move palmed to the net by Barry Daly an Anderson free another neat point from Daly and a sublime point from the outside of the boot from midfielder Barry Collins. The final score of the half was from another Mark Donnelly score.Tyrone went in at half time with a commanding lead and looking like the only winner on the day and showed they had no intention of letting their title go.

Second half proceedings started with a great point from O’Neill from a long range free. Dublin responded with a Gareth Smith point and O’Neill again from a free kept Dublin at bay.Dublin registered 2 unanswered points from Smith and Rooney but Tyrone gathered momentum once again and after a driving run into the Dublin rearguard Martin Grimes was upended and a penalty awarded. The kick was dispatched clinically to the Dublin net by O’Neill.

The game as a contest was fizzling out due mostly to the dominance of the Tyrone men even after a couple of points from Dublin’s Bren Mc Manaman. Tyrone could even afford a missed penalty from O Neill after a great ball in from Captain Conor Gormley to find Grimes again and the Dublin men gave away another penalty.

On the whole a fantastic team performance from the Tyrone Masters in which the management got to use all their personnel on the day. There is no intention of relinquishing their title any time soon going on today’s performance.Tyrone are waiting on a replay of Sligo and Donegal to see who they meet in the Dr.Mick Loftus final in a few weeks time
