Tyrone Senior Hurlers produced an excellent team performance to defeat Leitrim on Saturday and to qualify for the semi final of the Nicky Rackard Cup. Their opponents in the semi final will be Warwickshire with Monaghan and Donegal meeting in the other semi.

Tyrone began the game well and with Damien Casey, Aidan Kelly, Chris Cross and Justin Kelly all on target they were soon 0-6 to 0-4 in front.

Further points from Justy Kelly and Pierse O’Kelly stretched the lead to four. The home side responded well but Tyrone continued to look the more impressive team and reached the break seven clear with further scores from O’Kelly, Ryan Mc Kernan and Chris Kearns.

The Red Hands added two early points after the break before Damien Casey found the net following good work from Bryan Mc Gurk. Dermott Begley and Tiernan Morgan kept the scoreboard turning before Leitrim found the net with a Colm Moreton goal.

The home side took tremendous energy from that score and Tyrone temporarily lost their way. A second Leitrim goal from James Glancy however led to a positive response from Mattie Lennon’s team. Josh Ferguson and Liam Anderson landed points to balance the ship before Aidy Kelly struck for Tyrone’s second goal to seal the win.

Final score Tyrone 2-25 Leitrim 2-14
